Kitchen Staff
Position purposeUnder supervision, will perform all the kitchen tasks necessary to prepare healthy nutritious food for students and staff.
Duties/Responsibilities/Functions/TasksMay include, but not limited to:
- assisting with the preparation and serving of food items - performing the more routine food service operations duties- operate specialized food service equipment.
- maintaining food service equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition- assisting with the preparation of a variety of foods in large quantities and within established time constraints- clean serving areas; kitchen; refrigerator; freezers, and related cooking equipment- washing dishes- observe safety procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions.
- perform other related work as directed.
Qualifications-Food handlers card (can acquire when hired)- knowledge of basic procedures, methods, and equipment used in storing, preparation, and cooking of large quantities of food for institutional food service operations.
- knowledge of standard principles of operation and use of equipment, machines, and utensils used in large quantity food preparation and serving.
- knowledge of proper sanitations and safety requirements associated with food preparation and serving safe work practices- ability to follow policies and procedures.
- ability to work varying shifts (evenings and weekends), as needed.
Work / Special Position Requirements- Working environment requires physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, uses hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear, stoop, and infrequently lift objects up to 30 pounds.
ability to handle hot materials and work in an environment dominated by wide temperature extremes.
- maintain pace in using kitchen utensils and equipment, and move and position hot materials in a production setting- work is normally performed in a kitchen environment; exposure to heat, grease, cooking oil, and electrical energy- work is performed in an environment with constant noise; equipment with moving parts; regular exposure to wetness and moisture- some exposure to chemicals, cleaning to solutions, and bleachesPreferences- Prior experience or training is preferred Recommended Skills Food Preparation Restaurant Operation Safety Principles Electrical Engineering Chemistry Cooking Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
